TechTuesday 2019

Tuesday, March 19, 2019 (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

Tech Tuesday presents, "Managing Knowledge Workers (and we’re ALL knowledge workers)" with Larry Tribble of Sigao Studios.

Larry Tribble of Sigao Studios, has spent time studying the challenges of managing knowledge work, primarily in the field of software development and offering job coaching to industry talent. He has observed that management structures and practices trail behind progress from industrial work to knowledge work. Over 50 years ago, Peter Drucker said that the dominant management challenge of the 21st century is to improve the productivity of knowledge work; but he couldn't foresee how to do that. Note our current challenges: "bring your own technology", the gig economy, a hyper-mobile and/or remote workforce, the need to hire technical experts. But, management thinking is derived from a time when the boss was the “smartest” person in the room and people were lucky to have a job outside farming. It is time to rethink. We’ll define knowledge work, compare management legend to current fact, and discuss ideas about managing both the motivation and productivity of knowledge workers, including yourself.

Larry Tribble, Ph.D. is the Director of Coaching Practice at Sigao Studios. His doctorate is in Strategic Information Systems along with an MBA and a Master's in Enterprise Consulting. He has over 20 years of corporate IT experience, managing development teams. He has studied management throughout his career and has coached management for more than five years. His focus is individual and organizational productivity, through which he developed the Attention Compass productivity system. He has spoken and presented research at the Atlanta Competitive Advantage Conference, the Strategic Management Society, and the Academy of Management conferences several times.
