NETWORK ENGINEER III-ENT - (T223100)

FOR USE BY IT AND HSIS ONLY:  The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a NETWORK ENGINEER III-ENT to manage the purchase, installation, and support of network communications, including LAN/WAN systems. To evaluate current systems and work on complex problems where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. To plan large scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies. To provide work leadership and training to lower level network engineers. This position will commit to fostering an environment of heightened security following Information Technology Security Policies and participating in security training, such as Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), on an annual basis. 

This position will provide enterprise network support in the following areas: 
  • Install and configure network devices like routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers 
  • Manage network protocols like BGP, OSPF, TCP/IP
  • Implement network security policies and best practices 
  • Analyze network traffic patterns and identifying performance bottlenecks 
  • Diagnose and resolve complex network issues
  • Lead network engineering projects and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
  • Document network procedures and standards

(Annual Salary:   $85,600  -  $139,100)

 

Qualifications

 
Associate's degree in Information Systems or a related field and six (6) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
Preferred Skills:
  • Deep understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, routing protocols, VLANs, etc.)
  • Expertise in network design principles and best practices
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Experience with various network hardware vendors (Palo Alto, HPE, Ruckus, F5)
  • Proficiency with network management tools and automation platforms
