About the Speakers

Our moderator Matt Hottle is the Co-Founder of Redhawk Advisory, a firm specializing in managing targeted venture capital funds. Through the firm's work, Redhawk has helped to bring underrepresented and underserved founders to Alabama through its partnership with the Alabama Futures Fund. Redhawk also manages the Prosper Healthtech Accelerator fund which invests in early stage healthtech startups.

Becky Patterson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Administration from Auburn University and a Master of Science in Health Administration (MSHA) degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Becky joined Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama in 1999 and has almost 25 years of experience working with health care analytics and clinical program design and implementation. Becky currently serves as the Director of Health Care Analytics, where she leads the HCA division and its mission to support data driven decisions for the organization. The Health Care Analytics division includes clinical and enterprise level analytic support at BCBSAL including utilization and quality analytics, employer group analytics, business intelligence, data management, emerging analytics including predictive analytics, and data governance. In addition to analytics, Becky is currently leading many of the Health Equity strategies for the organization.

Dr. Del Smith is passionate about using business to make a positive societal impact. He is the co-founder and CEO of Acclinate, a growing digital health company specializing in accessing and engaging communities of color so they can make informed health decisions. He has leadership experience in healthcare, IT, higher education, and government. Del most recently served as dean of the business school at Alabama A&M University.  His experience starting and growing tech-related companies fuels his inquiry on how minority-owned firms achieve high levels of success. Del’s research findings have appeared in publications such as the Journal of Business Research, the Journal of Developmental Entrepreneurship, and the Journal of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Del earned his Ph.D. in Business from the University of Alabama.

Isis Ashford-Swain, COO and co-founder of Xplosion Technology, has served as senior personnel in two NSF SBIR Phase I grant proposals and overseen a combined budget of $520,000 in federal funding. She is an innovative digital health technologist and health tech entrepreneur with a penchant for fusing data analytics insights, wearable tech, and content into game-changing products and solutions.  She has developed and designed the software for mobile and web applications for major college athletic programs, including the University of Miami and Delaware State University.  She currently works with Children’s of Alabama high-risk patients. Her passion is creating digital health solutions to reduce health outcomes for populations that are typically overlooked and underserved. She is a serial entrepreneur who has produced $500k in sales in 6 months for her e-commerce business.

Will Wright leads innovation at Protective Life. Professionally, he also mentors startups, founded the non-profit Health Rounds, co-founded Pack Health, and consulted with McKinsey & Company. Will volunteers his time as a board member for the Innovation Depot, the ACLI (innovation subcommittee), and with Harvard’s Alumni Association. Will graduated with honors from UC Berkeley and Harvard. Outside of work, Will enjoys the outdoors, working out, and a good meal.
