SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR II-ENT - (T210636) Description FOR USE BY IT AND HSIS ONLY: The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a Syetems Administrator II-ENT to install, configure, and maintain operating system workstations and server, including web servers in support of business processing requirements. To perform software installation and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages. To schedule installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. To monitor and tune the system to achieve optimum performance levels. To ensure workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. To ensure data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations. To support media management through internal methods and procedures or the rough offsite storage and retrieval services. To develop and promote standard operating procedures. To conduct routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines. To develop and maintain a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation. This position will commit to fostering an environment of heightened security following Information Technology Security Policies and participating in security training, such as Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), on an annual basis. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: - Will provide Tier 2 support for Linux system troubleshooting, failure analysis, scripting, patch management, and performance monitoring.
- Supports Linux OS standards and security patching
- Supports the automation effort for enterprise systems builds
- Supports infrastructure initiatives and projects by utilizing technical skills such as Linux OS, scripting, automation tools, and virtualization.
- Maintains documentation including service descriptions and SLA's
(Annual Salary: $67,070 - $108,990) Qualifications Associate s degree in Information Systems or a related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. Preferred Skills: - Experience installing, rebuilding, and configuring Linux Systems
- Familiarity with a scripting language (Python, Perl, Bash)
- Performance monitoring and troubleshooting
- Basic knowledge of networking fundamentals
- Fundamentals of storage area networks (sans)
- Virtualization platforms
