Job Description
This position assists the Manager/Director of IT Compliance with maintaining regulatory compliance around Promoting Interoperability and the HIPAA Privacy Rule by researching, analyzing, communicating, and implementing requirements. This position serves as the primary point person for continuing and new IT-related surveys and accreditations sought by the Department/Institution. This position manages activities of the HIPAA Advisory Committee as well as HIPAA and research opportunities. This position will provide backup to IT Compliance Manager/Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory issues: Review proposed/upcoming changes to and regulatory bulletins or other sources of information regarding Promoting Interoperability and HIPAA regulations for impact on UAB Medicine, develop and manage plans to communicate/implement new requirements, work with colleagues at all levels to accomplish outcomes to comply/meet regulatory dictates by or before effective dates (may involve presentations and/or collaborating with standing committees or formulating special committees/work groups).
- Surveys/accreditation documents: Serve as primary point person for completion and submission of continuing surveys and accreditations; work with and report to director/manager for new related initiatives.
- HIPAA Advisory Committee (HAC): Serve as primary point person for planning, preparing for, and managing activities of the HAC including meetings and communications.
- Research/IRB: Assist with research-related questions and needs (excepting access requests) and serve as a primary contact for the IRB.
- Process improvement: Review the various activities of the division and, in conjunction with director/manager; develop plans to improve processes and workflows.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in health-related, information technology, or business/management field preferred
- Minimum of 7 years’ full-time work experience in healthcare, IT, or healthcare/IT-related business setting
- Experience in a clinical healthcare setting
- Self-starter; works independently with minimal supervision
- Good organizational skills including the ability to multi-task
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good computer technical skills
- Proven ability to manage programs, projects, and tasks in work setting within required timeframes/deadlines
- Attention to detail
